Anchor Health Properties Celebrates Ribbon Cutting for Capital Health’s New Heart and Vascular Center

Marking an important milestone in expanding access to advanced cardiac care services in the region, Anchor proudly joined Capital Health recently as they celebrated the ribbon cutting and opening of Capital Health’s new Al Maghazehe Heart and Vascular Center. Serving as the fee for service developer, Anchor worked closely with Capital Health leadership and stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and deliver this complex renovation and expansion within the hospital’s existing footprint.

“This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and strong partnerships,” shared Matthew Pirolli, Vice President of Development with Anchor. “For more than twenty years, Anchor has worked with Capital Health to serve the community as we pursue better healthcare through real estate solutions together. By navigating a complex renovation and integrating advanced surgical technology, we delivered a dynamic cardiac suite that will enhance patient care and support clinical teams for years to come.”

Located within Capital Health Regional Medical Center, a regional academic medical center and state designated trauma center, in Trenton, New Jersey, the 12,650 square foot project brings three state-of-the-art operating rooms to the hospital’s cardiac program, including a dedicated open-heart surgery operating room, a hybrid operating room capable of supporting both open-heart and catheter-based procedures, and a catheterization lab with advanced electrophysiology technology. The suite also includes pre- and post-operative areas and essential support spaces, creating a comprehensive, patient-centric environment for cardiac care.

Achieving this vision required a complex process involving significant infrastructure upgrades and the repurposing of space to create the new surgical suite. Throughout construction, the project team managed critical infrastructure and workflow coordination, ensuring patient and staff safety remained the top priority while minimizing disruption to ongoing hospital operations.

“Delivering a project of this complexity within an active hospital required precision, flexibility, and a highly coordinated team,” added Lesley Yocum, Development Director with Anchor. “From the design phase to the final construction milestones, every partner brought their expertise to the table, ensuring we stayed on schedule while maintaining patient and staff safety. The result is a state-of-the-art cardiac surgery suite that reflects the dedication and collaboration of everyone involved and, most importantly, creates a space where exceptional care can be delivered for years to come.”

Locally based firms offering extensive healthcare facility experience served as key members of the project team, including NK Architects, a top architecture firm specializing in healthcare, education, science & technology, and corporate work, and OA Peterson, a full-service general contractor with more than seventy years of experience in the healthcare sector.
