Our Story

Anchor Health Properties, a firm that for 35 years has been devoted exclusively to the development of medical facilities, actually evolved from a retail development company – an evolution that had much to do with our becoming a very different kind of healthcare development company, and leader in the industry.

The founders of Anchor Health Properties, Lou Sachs and Paula Crowley, began their development careers at the Rouse Company of Columbia, Maryland, an organization nationally recognized for its landmark retail centers, such as Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston and Harborplace in Baltimore, as well as many other innovative urban and suburban retail development across the country.

After leaving Rouse, Mr. Sachs and Ms. Crowley formed the firm which has become Anchor Health Properties – a company based in the tradition of retail customer service. Our development process incorporates many of the principles that are basic to the creation of a successful retail center. Our strategic approach to navigating highly competitive healthcare markets, and our full understanding of brand awareness and service line integration reflect on our days in retail development.

In 2015 Anchor Health Properties merged with Brinkman Management & Development, a company also focused solely on development and management in the healthcare market.  Under the leadership of Ben Ochs, who was named as the Chief Executive Officer of the combined organizations, the merger strengthened Anchor's full-service platform with a breadth of experience in all facets of healthcare real estate, from ground-up development, management and leasing, to acquisitions and dispositions.  

Anchor has continued to grow through diversification of its offerings, capabilities, and expansion of its geographic reach nationwide. The firm now has more than 80 employees, more than 7,000,000 square feet of space under management, 1,000,000 square feet in development, 15 offices around the country, and offers an institutional quality, full-service healthcare real estate platform with a small-business mindset. 

With our now expanded leadership, along with a team of highly experienced professionals, we are better positioned to adapt the ever-changing challenges facing the healthcare field. We continue to lead the industry with our unique solutions to complex problems by utilizing our creativity, flexibility, and nimble approach to remain ahead of the curve and find new ways to address the changing healthcare landscape.
