Anchor Health Properties Announces Opening of Healthcare Destination in The Villages, Florida
Located in the heart of The Villages, Florida, the Center for Advanced Healthcare at Brownwood (CAHB), a 235,000 square foot specialty and ambulatory care center has officially opened its doors to patients, visitors, and the community. The facility was the largest healthcare center solely dedicated to outpatient services under construction in 2019. Anchor Health Properties (Anchor), a national full service healthcare real estate development, management, and investment company focused exclusively on medical facilities, worked closely with the entire project team as the development manager and owner’s representative to ensure alignment and integration of the business goals of the project with the complex programmatic planning and construction of the facility.
“We’re extremely excited by the culmination of the past few years’ hard work into this phenomenal facility. The commitment from The Villages® and The Villages Health to create a new paradigm for the delivery of healthcare services focusing on the patient and caregiver experience in support of a healthy, active way of life for the residents and the surrounding community is evident in every detail from the building’s aesthetics to operations to the seamless integration with the hotel and spa,” shared Katie Jacoby, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Development with Anchor. “It’s been a pleasure working with this talented and passionate project team to bring the vision for a comprehensive expansion of specialty care services in Brownwood to reality in the planning and development of this statement project.”
The Center for Advanced Healthcare at Brownwood features a complementary, diverse tenant ecosystem of world-class providers and services, including a state-of-the-art cancer center, imaging center, laboratory, pharmacy, ophthalmology, optical center, aesthetics center, a wide variety of specialty care services, as well as the country’s first reverse-aging hyperbaric treatment facility.
Working closely with the executive leadership from The Villages, The Villages Health, and key stakeholders, Anchor dedicated significant expertise and resources to the overall development including planning, programming, and oversight of the design and construction of the facility. Ever mindful of The Villages Health’s mission of care, the team considered how the spatial flow and placement of services within the building would affect the patient experience as well as the providers’ business plans, while designing the center as a comprehensive facility. Anchor worked diligently with the project team to integrate the key components of the building in a cohesive design model benefiting the programmatic needs of the individual tenants as it relates to suite footprint, medical equipment, and support space within the overall synergy and operations of a successful healthcare facility.
Richard Paddock, Vice President, Development, adds “For me, the most unique part of this experience has been working alongside the team and the community. There were so many exceptional people involved in this project – the Morse family, the executive leadership and management of The Villages and The Villages Health, ESa, DPR Construction, and leadership from each of the tenants. Every decision that was made on this project was based on how it would positively affect the broader community and the community business partners. From day one, the entire team was committed to creating a local, community-owned healthcare destination housed in a resort-style environment that provides best-in-class outpatient services – and we achieved that with the Center for Advanced Healthcare at Brownwood.”
Echoing these sentiments, Brian Sellers, Development and Construction Manager with The Villages, said “The energy of the Anchor team and willingness to roll up their shirt sleeves and give 150% throughout the project facilitated the successful completion of this project within planned delivery milestones and under budget. The entire project team functioned as a seamless extension of The Villages and The Villages Health – the level of understanding and collaboration to accomplish the programmatic, business, and design and aesthetic goals of this project from the team is commendable.”
Further driving medical tourism to the Center and surrounding community is a 167,000 square foot, 151-room hotel featuring an 8,000 square foot Wolfgang Puck restaurant and 10,000 square foot independently operated spa. The integration of the hotel and complementary amenities into the campus provides a safe and inviting way for patients and their families to receive healthcare services. The strategically planned direct connectivity of the second floor of the hotel to the future ambulatory surgery center within the CAHB provides the opportunity for patients and visitors to arrive the night before an early appointment or convalesce after care in a high-quality, warm, and welcoming environment. Anchor also served as owner’s rep for the development of the hotel, spa conference center and restaurant as part of the overall campus development.
“We are focused on building active, healthy lifestyles at The Villages and The Villages Health, stated Dr. Elliot Sussman, Chairman of The Villages Health. With the Center for Advanced Healthcare at Brownwood, we wanted to build more than just another outpatient center; we wanted to develop a first-of-its-kind, industry leading healthcare destination available to the public. Anchor’s inherent understanding of our health system’s model of care and the consumer experience made them the natural partner for this project. Integral to the community and serving as the nucleus for The Villages Health services, we are looking forward to promoting healthy living and growing alongside our neighbors.”
